Naturland

Welcome to Naturland

Naturland farmers and processors have been ground-breaking global pioneers for over 30 years. The world’s first ever conversion to organic agriculture of tea gardens in Sri Lanka and India in the 1980s was the prelude to our successful work on an international scale. Currently 43,000 farmers in 46 countries manage an area of some 330,000 hectares according to the Naturland standards. To Naturland, organic agriculture means combining tradition with modern practices and experience with the courage to adopt new approaches.

Olivenoelaward BF 2016 mitUrkundeundOel Bild1At this year’s BIOFACH, numerous awards were again presented to long-standing members and partners of Naturland. After repeated previous successes, Biocyclic Network, a Greek partner of Naturland, again walked off with an award. At the ceremony “BioFach 2016 Olive Oil Award” in Nuremberg, it was this time the biocyclic extra virgin olive oil produced by Samira and Johannes Eisenbach from Kalamata/Messinia which was ranked in the TOP 10. It now made it the third time in a row that an olive oil produced to the Naturland standards by our Greek partner, Biocyclic Network, has taken an award at the BIOFACH.
All the oils were assessed with respect to aroma, taste and general condition. In this case the olive oil produced by Biocyclic Network , a Pan-Hellenic organic farming network, got top marks and was awarded a well-deserved second place.

That is 6.7 percent more than a year earlier. Thus Naturland could extend its lead as one of the most important organic associations worldwide. The greatest strides in this positive development in 2015 were made in Europe. There are already indications of even more significant growth in 2016 in South America and Asia too, in the number of farms and in the area cultivated.

"The fact that over 3,000 farms in Germany see their future in the Naturland community is a powerful and important signal at the close of the BIOFACH”, said Steffen Reese, the general manager of Naturland, on Saturday at the trade fair in Nuremberg.

Just in time for this year’s BIOFACH, a new image brochure, Naturland International, came hot off the press for the first time. This 32-page booklet provides an overview of all that Naturland has to offer: from wild coffee from Ethiopia to bananas from Ecuador or shrimps from Bangladesh to olives and feta cheese from Greece.

The high-end image brochure is intended to illustrate to processors and the trade the value added by Naturland and the efficiency of the association as a certifying body, in its quality assurance system and the acquisition of raw goods.

The rich diversity of organic fair trade produce from the global north and south is being shown at the forum “Naturland Fair”. A new forum is “Naturland in Greece“, a showcase for the produce of our Greek Naturland partners. The forum “Naturland Fish and Seafood” is centred round the diversity to be found in the strictly organic produce of the Naturland aquaculture and sustainable fishery.
