Anlage 350Spirulina production plant (Source: E.I.D. PARRY (INDIA) LIMITED)Due to their high content of secondary plant compounds, microalgae of the genera Spirulina and Chlorella are commonly grown as dietary supplements on an economical scale. The Naturland standards provide important guidelines for production and processing.

Only certified organic raw materials are allowed to be used as substrate. Regular checks of the water quality, strict guidelines for processing and analysis of the microalgae guarantee the high quality of the Naturland certified microalgae.

"Mikroalgen" means algae which are floating in the water column, either as single cells, or as short chains of cells. You can find them in nearly every kind of water body, even in such extreme environments as glaciers and salines."
ChlorellaChlorellaDue to their high content of secondary plant compounds, microalgae of the genera Spirulina and Chlorella are commonly grown as dietary supplements on an economical scale. Spirulina contains ß-Karotin, Vitamines B und E, Calcium, Iron and Magnesium, in addition to all essential amino acids. Chlorella is often being used in the alternative medicine for draining heavy metals, e.g. after removal of dental amalgam fillings.

Cultured on purely organic substrate

Spirulina 250SpirulinaThe main area of microalgae production are tropical and subtropical regions. While Spirulina lives in highly saline waters, Chlorella is a freshwater algae. For optimal growth, both species need intense sunlight. For this reason, the water in the production ponds is only about 30 cm deep and is permanently being circulated.

The Naturland standards deal with microalgae the same way like with other products that consist of microorganisms (e.g. yeast) or are being produced by them (e.g. yoghurt): only certified organic raw materials are allowed to be used as substrate. Consequently, Naturland prohibits the use of synthetic fertilizers and all animal products like manure, blood meal etc. In addition, there are no conventional anti-caking agents or other additives allowed for further processing.
