The sustained growth of Naturland over the past years advanced further in 2018 - in Germany and worldwide. Currently, 65,000 farmers in 58 countries produce under the Naturland standards - 19.3 percent more than a year ago. The agricultural area increased by 12.6 percent to 386,000 hectares. In addition, 54,000 hectares of forests are managed according to Naturland standards, adding to a grand total of 440,000 hectares of land which are now Naturland certified.

"This highlights our role as one of the world's leading organic associations, which also sets high quality in its standards with its consistent combination of organic farming and social responsibility," emphasized organic farmer and Naturland President Hubert Heigl.

Most of the the farmers, outside Germany are mainly small farmers who are organized in some 147 cooperatives or producer associations. For the second year in a row the number has risen by more than 10,000. Last year, a total of 24 new producer organisations joined Naturland and existing Naturland cooperatives were also able to attract many new small farmers to convert to organic farming follwing the Naturland standards.
Asia saw the largest growth, especially in India, Sri Lanka and Indonesia. For the first time Naturland also gained members in Algeria, Bulgaria, Burkina Faso, Chile, Ghana and the West African island state of Sao Tomé and Principe.
In Germany, a total of 273 new farms joined Naturland as members in 2018, an increase of 7,9 percent. Equally, there was a well-above average increase of converted areas by 14.1 percent, with 25,000 new Naturland organic hectares.
