Welcome to Naturland

Naturland farmers and processors have been ground-breaking global pioneers for over 30 years. The world’s first ever conversion to organic agriculture of tea gardens in Sri Lanka and India in the 1980s was the prelude to our successful work on an international scale. Currently 65,000 farmers in 58 countries manage an area of some 440,000 hectares according to the Naturland standards. To Naturland, organic agriculture means combining tradition with modern practices and experience with the courage to adopt new approaches.

5. International Organic Beekeeping Conference

Imkereitagung Florian Gerlach 250Beekeepers around the world are struggling with various negative impacts of an increasingly industrialised agriculture on bee health and honey production. Organic beekeepers are particularly affected by this, as they find less and less uncultivated or organically farmed land where to install the bees.
Against this background, scientists and beekeepers will meet at the University of Hohenheim in Stuttgart from 1 to 3 March for the 5th International Organic Beekeeping Conference. The conference is organised by the University of Hohenheim together with Naturland and the IFOAM Apiculture Forum. For the first time the conference will take place in Germany. In order to address both international professional beekeepers and regional hobby beekeepers, lectures will be held in German and English.

DSC0333 ruth 250x166On August 15, 2018, several people were purposefully murdered again at our partner PFTC in the Philippines, on the island of Panay in the province of Antique. This time, the victims were Felix Salditos, husband of former PFTC chairman Ruth Fe Salditos, along with six colleagues. We are shocked and mourn with our Filipino friends.

The work of the marketing organization for small farmers goes hand in hand with great social and political commitment. But those who fight for fair wages and working conditions, land reform and respect for human rights in the Philippines take risks.

Dr. Linley Dixon, US farmer and Associate Director of the Real Organic Project visited Naturland and Naturland farms in Southern Germany, beginning of December. The Real Organic Project is a nonprofit farmer NGO that aims at growing people’s understanding of foundational organic values and practices in the US.

Their main concern is the loss of local organic farms due to the influx of so called industrial organic producers. Their first goal is to create an add-on label to USDA certified organic to provide more transparency on organic farming practices.
