Project Assistant – Strengthening organic farming in Rwanda

Naturland - Association for Organic Agriculture e.V.  is an international organic farmers’ association based in Germany that supports the development of organic farming on a regional, national and global scale, together with its partner organizations and farmers. Founded in 1982 in Bavaria, it developed in the region before extending its membership in Germany, Europe and even globally. With over 100,000 farmers in about 60 countries, it is one of the leading international organic farmers’ associations.

We are looking for a

Project Assistant – Strengthening organic farming in Rwanda

To assist the implementation of a capacity building and raising awareness on organic agriculture (especially coffee production) project in Rwanda.

 

Place & Duration

Full-time position in Rwanda from December 2022 – November 2025
As a local assistant, you will support our long-term expert with the project implementation of the project.

 

Responsibilities

  • Assist the project implementation to successfully deliver the project’s goals and indicators.
  • Coordinate, ensure permanent dialogue and follow-up with different stakeholders
  • Prepare documents and reports (in English), gather information, desk research
  • Organize project activities such as but not limited to: research and consulting
  • assignments, workshops, trainings, meetings, network events, farm visits, work trips - both online and offline, including travel arrangements.
  • Implement the project monitoring system, draft project reports and assist report on budget’s spending
  • Ensure correctness of administrative documents to report to the project’s funder and on requests by the backstopping team from Naturland in Germany.
  • Deliver together with long-term expert regular updates on project’s progress, including track of tasks and operational plan.
  • Interpretation and translation English-french or English-Kinyarwanda when applicable

 

Your Profile

  • University Degree or other relevant education
  • Native in Kinyarwanda and fluent in English, German language considered beneficial
  • Network with organic stakeholders
  • Good knowledge on organic sector in Rwanda, experience in organic agriculture and/or environmental affairs
  • Experience working as an assistant is a plus
  • Proficient in MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point)
  • Intercultural sensitivity
  • Familiar with the work culture in Rwanda and practical know-hows. An experience with the German work culture is a plus
  • Structured, target-oriented, reliable, and proactive working manner
  • Good organizational, follow-up and time management skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Willingness to travel when necessary

 

About the project

The projects overall aim is to contribute to the development and stabilization of employment in Rwanda's rural areas as well as to environmental and resource protection through an expansion and fostering of organic agriculture. The project is a partnership with the Rwanda Organic Agriculture Movement with focus on strengthening organic agriculture and fair trade by delivering know-how and fostering networking among actors in Rwanda.

Since 1991 the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) finances worldwide partnerships projects within the framework of “Cooperation with the Private Sector”. sequa gGmbH is a globally operating non-profit development organization and partner of the German private sector. With its “Chambers and Associations Partnership Program”, German partners can propose and implement worldwide projects financed by the BMZ. The employment will be through an employer of record.
