Fish & Seafood

AT NATURLAND, ORGANIC APPLIES TO AQUATIC SPECIES TOO

Fish is a healthy source of nutrition and is a vital part of the world's diet due to its high-quality protein content. Just as it does on land, Naturland also utilises its standards to ensure the welfare of animals and nature under water. And of course the people who catch, breed and process the fish for us.

Naturland Fish & Seafood in a nutshell

As a pioneer of organic aquaculture, Naturland developed its first standard for organic aquaculture in 1996 and has continued to update it based on ongoing discussions with scientists and practitioners. The core elements of the Naturland standards for aquatic organisms relate to animal welfare, the protection of ecosystems and fair working conditions throughout the entire value chain. As such, Naturland not only certifies fish, but also crustaceans, mussels and algae.

The Naturland Wild Fish standard for sustainable fisheries has also been in place since 2007. This certification focuses primarily on artisan fisheries and those that set a particularly good example at sea and on internal lakes and rivers.  To become certified, all fisheries must fulfil additional farming requirements that go above and beyond the basic standards and are highly customised to the specific ecological and social conditions of the fishery in question.
